My article, “When History Finds Its Way into a Stamp and a Coin,” was published in The Garhwal Post on 21 August 2026, following India’s 80th Independence Day celebrations. The article explores how stamps, coins and commemorative issues can become much more than collectibles — they can become miniature records of our national memory. From the Revolt of 1857, tribal uprisings and Jallianwala Bagh to the Non-Cooperation Movement, Swadeshi Movement, Salt Satyagraha, Azad Hind Fauj, Quit India Movement, Independence, the framing of the Constitution and the making of our national flag, these tiny pieces of paper and metal help us trace the remarkable journey of our nation. I have also shared how my own collection and my three-frame, 24-sheet philatelic exhibit attempt to preserve and present this journey, and how such collections can help make history more accessible to the younger generation. One thought from the article that is particularly close to my heart: “A stamp may be small. A coin may fit in your palm. But together, they can hold the memory of a nation.” I hope more young people discover the joy of philately and numismatics — not simply as hobbies of collecting, but as hobbies of curiosity, research, discovery and preservation.
